So in 2 weeks (maybe less? My math sucks. We all know this, right?) 2022 will be over and 2023 will be upon us. This year has brought on some new reading interests and revived some others genre wise. 2022 brought Octavia E. Butler. I won't lie. I'd passed her by on the bookshelves more than once, but I had of course heard of her. I just had never taken a second look at the time for any number of reasons. But thanks to having joined Brayan's book club earlier this year, I had my chance to make it up to her, and boy oh boy. I feel so ashamed for having not given this lovely author the respect she so rightly deserved sooner.
I mentioned in a previous entry that we read Kindred. Kindred is classified as Afrofuturism. Afrofuturism is ia genre that is steadily growing in popularity, and I hope to find more authors to devour. Brayan's given more Butler to explore in the meantime for 2023.
The second author I discovered thanks to We Be Book'n was Tracy Wolff. She is the author of the soon to be six book series, Crave. Oh, it's gonna be so hard to talk about this series without gushing about some of my favorite characters, but I am gonna say this at the very least. I am very happy for her that it is finally picking up steam. It does not deserve the mistrust it is getting though it is fairly being compared to another popular paranormal YA series that came out in the early 2000s. Tracy did a great job anticipating that from th get go, and it's really working and I'm here for it. That's really all I can say about it without getting into fangirling about the characters themselves, and goddamn it do I really want to do that. Geez!!
The third...well, there is a tie for third, actually, and it's because of Valerie. First it started with Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall. I am smitten by Lucien and Oliver. Okay, smitten by the idea of them being together is probably more appropriate considering the plot of said book. I can't wait to read the next book. It looks there are going to be 5? But unsure what me and Val figured out. The other author courtesy of Val was Casey McQuiston the author of Red, White, and Royal Blue. I'm really enjoying this book. We are reading it for Lissa's book club. :)
Should mention that I have also stumbled across Stephanie Gerber's Caraval series, and Bridgid Kemmerer's Curse Breaker's series, which features a heroine with the same type of Cerebral Palsy. (I kinda got sidetracked from both of those series thanks to Crave, but my goal is to get back to them in 2023 and finish them while I wait for the final book in Crave series)
Starting in January, my new plans are:
read book club books right away.
read BOTM book and donate
read book of my choice
On that premise for January:
Interview with the Vampire -Together with Literature (Brayan's group)
The Case for Jamie- Page Turners (Lissa's group)
City of Heavenly Fire (reread for Val's reread)
BOTM:
Attic Child
