This morning I had the pleasure of watching the 20th Hanniversary special on Disney+. Let me start by saying I had been looking forward to this special for a month. Hannah Montana was one of my favorite Disney shows in the 2000s, right along with Suite Life of Zack and Cody (and it's sequel, On Deck), and That's So Raven. It aired at a time when life was a bit depressing for me.
It aired at a time when I hadn't discovered yet that the key to me handling my anxiety and depression was to drown myself in things that made me think of happier times and scenarios. So I would sit in front of my TV or have my ears plugged in with earbuds, and let Hannah (and later Miley), send me into positive vibes. The Jonas Brothers would later join this.
But anyway. Back to the special. The special was full of nostalgia. Miley, now in her 30s performed some iconic songs from Hannah Montana. "The Best of Both Worlds" , "This is the Life" and, from the movie: "The Climb". I was really hoping she'd perform "I've Got Nerve" or "If We Were a Movie". But that's okay. Those were very important songs to her, and that's important to consider.
Guest Stars:
Selena Gomez
Billy Ray Cyrus
Tish Cyrus
Chapell Roanan (no idea who that is)
I was deeply disappointed that her two co-stars, Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso didn't make appearances, even remotely. Or even Moises Arias. But aside from mentioning their relationships in the beginning of the series, they're not talked about too much.
Also missing was Jason Earles, who play Jackson Stewart. I am sure that there were reasons for all of this, but it just makes the special a little flat to me. I wanted to hear more behind the scenes stuff from the entire cast's point of view.
There has spectulation over the years that Emily and Miley had a massive falling out. I don't know if they really aren't talking or not. I also wonder why Jason didn't come back. it's not like he's distanced himself from it. he is doing a podcast for it. Hmm.
But overall, it was just nice to see that she's embraced Hannah and acknowledged that Hannah Montana got her where she is today.
