Everyone knows how much I love to see my favorite fandoms turned into movies so that there is a more physical representation of my favorite characters. They also know that I tend to be a little stricter with some fandoms while I let others slide. One such fandom for me is Maximum Ride.

I was informed last night by Valerie that there had been news on the new Maximum Ride movie. And then I went to look at the information, and guys, I gotta say, I am currently and decidedly unhappy with what I've discovered.

Infraction 1: Nudge is too old! She is supposed to be ten, but in this movie she appears to be closer to 13. I know some children grow at differing rates, and with them being genetically altered, it's possible she could just *look* 13, but in the books that's not how she is described! I'm sure more people would be upset if they had "whitewashed" her character, but to me, I felt like it was more important for their ages because this story is supposed to be very much kids versus adults. If that makes sense.

Infraction 2: They seem to only be releasing it to iTunes at the moment. I sincerely hope that changes because I no longer use iTunes. I've been using Google Play for a year now, and I love it. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'll keep holding on to hope. I don't want to miss out on seeing this movie after waiting so very long for it. I'm not saying it's going to make me entirely giddy, because I'm very...iffy about it all, but I'd like the chance to at least SEE it.

Those are the only 2 infractions right now, but I'm fairly certain that once I see it I will have more. I like the casting of everyone except possibly Nudge. But I am a fair fan. If she does a good job in the role, the age thing may not even end up being an issue for me after a while. At least they got the attitude for Max right, and Angel and Gazzy and Iggy look right for their parts too! Fang appears to be as broody as he's supposed to be, so that's a good sign. I always did hate the "Wait and see" game. I'm playing that with another big fandom right now, too, and it's killing me!

Now, on to something a bit more positive. Initially I wasn't going to see the new Ghostbusters movie. My loyalties will always lie with the original 2 movies (even if the second movie tanked at the box office upon initial release) . But I decided that I needed to see it for Melissa McCarthy. What ended up happening was that I fell in love with another actress' character. Kate McKinnon's Gillian Holtzmann was just....over the top mad scientist funny. She wasn't as much of a straight man as Egon was and I think her character was supposed to be the equivalent of Egon (I could be wrong, but that was the vibe I kinda got from her), but she was just wacky in her own way, really.

Chris Hemsworth played a magnificent role, too. I hadn't seen him in anything other than as Thor or the Snow White and the Huntsman, so this was refreshing for me to see him in a clean cut role. He did a nice job on it.

What I really liked in that movie though were the well thought out cameos. Bill Murray playing a skeptic who didn't believe in ghosts and paranormal, Ernie Hudson playing a tightly wound uncle of Patty, and the precious Dan Akroyd playing a cabbie who even uses a backwards line from the original movie. Oh! And Annie Potts who played Janine back in the day was hilarious as the Hotel receptionist. "Whaddaya want?!" has got to be one of my favorite lines of hers from the original, and she repeated it in the movie!

All in all, I will probably be buying this movie on Digital when it comes out. it was such a good movie, and even though it pales in comparison to the original, I have to remember that it is not remake, and it is not meant to replace or be better than the original. Because I was still always love the original.

About Ghostbusters, there's more cameos! There's a bust of Harold Ramis at one point in the movie, I think very early on. And I'm not sure if you missed this one or not, but I didn't see you mention it so I'll point it out just to be safe: Sigourney Weaver as Holtzmann's mentor!

It's a beautiful movie and I agree that it's not meant to replace the original. It's supplemental source material, in a way, much like the graphic novels and the cartoons were.
